Ukrainian Vinnitsyamiskteploenergo and Finnish Imatran Lämpö Oy (www.imatranlampo.fi) has commenced the project IMATRAN LÄMPÖ DH III, FI05-2021-233, FIN-011-TA – DH-twinning, Vinnitsyamiskteploenergo (Vinnitsia) – Imatran Lämpö Oy. The project duration frame is from December 2021 to June 2022.
The project is financed by Nefco (www.nefco.int) through the trust fund granted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The Services shall be monitored by the Elomatic Ltd., engaged by Nefco as the Coordination and Management Consultant for the Finland Ukraine Trust Fund (the “CM Consultant”).
The objective of the twinning project is to transfer the knowledge between two district heating companies, Ukrainian Vinnitsyamiskteploenergo and Finnish Imatran Lämpö Oy and testing KPA Unicon’s cloud based Digitalisation Demo/software. The project will address digitalisation of maintenance functions and fuel procurement. Digitalization demo and the pilot case would be implemented by Finnish company KPA Unicon Oy.
In Ukraine the industrial scale of the use of bio fuels has started just during recent years. In Finland the utilisation of solid bio fuels is common and business as usual with working infrastructure and highly developed practices. In energy industry the procurement of solid fuels in Finland is digitalised and organised systematically. In Vinnytsia bio fuels have been deployed during the last five years. The bio fuels replace fossil fuels, mainly natural gas. By introducing the best practices it is possible to further increase the use and efficiency of the utilisation of bio fuels. This increases the reliability, quality and efficiency of local DH production; decreases emissions and enhances local economy and the security of fuel supply.
Main topics for knowledge transfer are maintenance functions and solid fuel purchase. This project will give both twinning companies new ideas of how to improve O&M functions. Reporting system will be implemented in Vinnytsia, as applicable. When successful, the Digitalisation Demo is scalable to companies of different sizes. The reported requirements of the Digitalisation Demo can be used as source information in future projects. Consequently, the outcome, results and practices of the proposed Project and can be multiplied and applied in the future projects.
Base load District Heating in Vinnytsia is produced using natural gas and biofuels. Peak and reserve production is made by natural gas. Well planned and implemented maintenance operations minimize the use of reserve fuels by reducing unplanned stoppages. The increase in the utilisation of biofuel plants would replace the heat produced by natural gas and reduce CO2 emissions. The improvements of fuel purchase enable also investments of new bio boilers which make possible the increased utilisation of bio fuels. SDGs: 7 affordable and clean energy 8 decent work and economic growth 9 industry, innovation and infrastructure 10 reduced inequalities 11 sustainable cities and communities 13 climate action 16 peace, justice and strong institutions 17 partnership for the goals.
